There were 16 walkers on today’s outing with 1 walker being picked up at Inverurie on our way to Aviemore. The bus was a large 49 seater so there was plenty of room to spread ourselves around the bus!
Nine walkers alighted the bus at the Smokehouse at the junction of the A95 & the B970 to commence the full walk near the bridge outside Grantown on Spey. The sky was overcast with a light breeze & true to the weather forecast there was a little light rain for a few short periods throughout this walk. One member had acquired a new camera recently & used the opportunity to try it out frequently on the walk.
Two walkers left the bus further down the road at Nethy Bridge to do a slightly shorter walk whilst 3 more decided to take on the walk to & around Loch an Eilein from Inverdruie.
This left two walkers who caught the local bus from Aviemore up to the Ski Centre where after exploring the centre they took the path from there down to the Reindeer Centre near Loch Morlich. This path was close to the river on the west side of the road & there had been a recent landslip due to the heavy rainfall. This event had badly affected the wooden walkway but our intrepid duo were not to be deterred as they eventually found a way round this obstacle. After a coffee they caught the local bus again back to Aviemore.
Most walkers gravitated to the Cairngorm Hotel & Bar where a few drinks were dispatched before the bus left Aviemore just after 5:00 pm, well before the original departure time of 7:00 pm. A good day was had by all with the weather playing its part in this & we arrived back in Aberdeen around 7:15pm
