Walk Notes

SO.S. Map 36 (Grantown & Aviemore).

Bus departs Aberdeen at 8.00am.

This walk is a though one, so anyone wanting a different, or shorter one should advise your committee member in charge of the outing prior to leaving the bus. Some alternatives are given below but you may think differently.

  1. Speyside Way. Today’s walk from Grantown on Spey to Aviemore commences at the bridge over the River Spey (NGR 036 262). Head SW’wards on the Speyside Way to arrive near Nethy Bridge. Continue on the Speyside Way till it crosses the River Spey near the village of Boat of Garten. Continue on the Speyside Way SW’wards to eventually arrive at the bus parked in Aviemore. It will be on Santa Claus Drive (NGR 895 127) accessed from the roundabout across from the Police Station. Walking distance approx. 15 miles.
  2. Speyside Way – Shorter Option. Start at Boat of Garten (NGR 943 189) on the Speyside Way. Walk SW’wards to soon arrive at Aviemore and the bus as detailed in walk 1.. Walking distance approx. 6 miles

3) Loch an Eilein. From the carpark at Inverdruie (NGR 901 109), walk S’wards on a good track, ignoring paths at (NGR 903 099) and (NGR 094 099) going SE’wards and NE’wards respectively until a road track at (NGR 904 095). Continue SW’wards to a pic-nic site at (NGR 897 086). Follow the path past the Visitor Centre and complete the circuit of Loch an Eilein. Return to the bus in Aviemore by retracing your steps to Inverdruie. Cross the road & headN’West & take the footpath (NGR 897 115) which takes you across the river Spey to access Aviemore. Walking distance approx. 7 miles.

Bus departs at 7.00 pm.

In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted. Relevant telephone number for Grampan Police is 999.

Committee member in charge today is Gilbert McCurdy. (Mobile Tel. 07807240817)
