There were 30 members on today’s walk. The main group of
15 alighted the bus near Baddoch in Glen Clunie to climb An Socach. As we
climbed higher the wind speed increased and temperatures decreased, but 10
hardy folk made it to the munro top. The remaining 5 decided to have lunch at
the 938 metre top, then carried on along the tops to Sgor Mor, Carn na
Drochaide and Morrone before descending into Braemar.
A party of 7 went to
do Morrone from Auchallater and took the landrover track to the top of Morrone.
They had lunch in the shelter of the radio buildings and then descended to
Braemar on a narrow rocky path.
The remainder of the members took the bus to Braemar to do shorter alternative walks. The weather was dry, overcast with a bitterly cold wind on the tops. Those doing the shorter walks arrived early in Braemar and were entertained by a pipe band. Refreshments were enjoyed at a variety of establishments in Braemar, including the recently refurbished Fife Arms hotel. Alan
