There were nineteen walkers on the bus, with one noshow.  The weather was fine on departure
from Aberdeen, with rain forecast for later in the afternoon.  The attempted comfort stop at Kirriemuir was
unsuccessful, owing to further cuts in provision of facilities by Aberdeenshire
council, so we continued to our start point at Little Forter.  More than half the walkers disembarked to do
the main walk over Monega Hill and Glas Maol, but several people stayed on the
bus to do shorter walks from the Cairnwell ski centre.  The weather stayed dry for the walk through
Glen Isla and for the ascent of Monega Hill, allowing us to enjoy the magnificent views form the top; for the reminder of the walk
there were intermittent showers and the rain became more persistent towards the
end of the afternoon.  However, everyone
was back in good time and several enjoyed refreshments and home bakes at the
ski centre café. We left one hour early to enjoy a pub stop in Ballater before
the return journey to Aberdeen. Janet
