Walk Notes

O.S. Map 43 (Braemar).

This walk is a through one. So anyone wanting a different walk should travel with the bus to the finishing point and do their own thing from there. This is possible, so walkers should advise your committee member in charge today, prior to leaving the bus.

1. From the bus at Little Forter (NGR 187 649) head northwards up Glen Isla towards Tulchan Lodge (NGR 188 722). Walk along the River Isla and climb the ascending path to gain Monega Hill (908m). Continue on the path past Little Glas Maol (973m) and leave the path to reach Glas Maol (1068m). From this summit head for Meall Odhar (922m) and the ski tows and follow the path to our bus at the Glenshee car park (NGR 142 774).

Walking distance 13 miles.

2. From the bus, head for the ski lodge café (NGR 138 781) and ascend the path to (NGR 127 786). Head NE’wards on a good track and gain Carn Aosda (917m). Return to the bus (NGR 142 774) by walking S’wards down the ski track.

Walking distance approx. 4 miles.

3. From the bus, go to the spot height 665m on the map (NGR 142 773). Head SW’wards on the Old Military Road as far as (NGR 134 755). Cross the A93 with care and follow the path SE’wards to (NGR 142 753). Head N’wards through the Leacann Dubh valley to reach the ski tows and onwards to our bus (NGR 142 774). Walking distance approx. 5miles.
