27 attended the outing to Hill of Wirren. Our 2nd bus pickup point was again changed to Riverside Drive as gas repair work continued at the Duthie Park roundabout. Hopefully though we will be able to return to our usual pickup points for the next outing.
We then proceeded south and following a pickup at Portlethen, arrived at Edzell for a short comfort stop before heading up the glen to our start point near Millden Lodge. Most of the group alighted here and set off up a steep climb to reach the summit of Hill of Wirren traversing the hill via East Wirren and Hill of Corathro before descending via Little Tullo and Gannochy Farms, finally arriving at Edzell green where the bus was parked.
On the return to Edzell the bus dropped off 2 Walkers for the shorter walk to Hill of Corathro crossing by a bridge over the North River Esk. Unfortunately the bridge though marked clearly on the map no longer exists and appears to have been washed away in previous flooding.
Undaunted, however they continued on the road for a short distance to reach the Rocks of Solitude river path where they met up with a few more of the group who decided to do this 3rd alternative walk.
The weather remained dry, bright and sunny all day( despite being cold on the main tops) with pleasant walking conditions.
All returned early allowing sufficient time for a refreshment stop in Edzell before heading home and arriving back in Aberdeen at 5.15pm.
