23 walkers boarded the bus for today’s walks around the Invercauld Estate on Royal Deeside. We had a new driver – Scott – & we stopped at Ballater on the way for a comfort break.
Everyone alighted the bus at Keiloch while Scott set off for Braemar whilst we all made our way on various routes. The majority of walkers – 15 in total – set out in the direction of the Corbett of Cullardoch (900m). Two of this group took the right hand fork below the top & headed round to Auchtavan & onwards to Keiloch via Felagie. The remaining 13 walkers carried on to the top passing a group of walkers from the Petercoulter Hillwalking Club on the way. The weather was dry in the main & the predicted thunder storms, thankfully, did not materialise, although we could observe storm clouds hovering above Ben Avon & Lochnagar.
A group of 5 walkers took on the circuit of Craig Leek (but not taking in the actual top) passing on the way the memorial benches in tribute to Willie Robb & Jimmy Bremner who were former members of our club. The remaining walker carried out a shorter walk around the estate.
All walkers were back at Keiloch around 2 hours earlier than expected so we had time for a pub stop at Ballater on the way back home.
A good day was had by everyone & our driver Scott, got us back in Aberdeen a couple of hours before our scheduled finishing time. Gilbert
