We had a well packed bus for today’s walk along the east coast of Angus as 28 walkers turned up & the bus was a 33 seater.
On the way South we had a comfort stop at the Brechin Castle Garden Centre where some walkers obtained a coffee whilst I managed to purchase some seed potatoes (Maris Piper) which will be sown later.
As the bus was relatively small our driver, Jules, managed to get us all the way to the car park at Lunan Bay. All but one alighted the bus to start the day’s walk whilst the remaining walker stayed on the bus until it reached Arbroath where they got off & explored the town.
It was a dull day but dry although it felt rather chilly due to the light wind which made the temperature feel a little colder than the 9 degrees centigrade forecast.
The walkers soon accessed the sandy beach of Lunan Bay after passing the sandstone ruins of Red Castle. The last of the walkers just made it to the end of the beach at Ethie Haven as the tide was coming in.
Throughout the day we could hear the song of the skylarks which seemed to be above every field we passed.
Most walkers stopped for lunch at Auchmithie which had a low stone wall at the edge of the road – just the right height for sitting on!
Everyone was back early so there was time for a stop in Inverbervie for further refreshments etc.
All in all a good day out & Jules got us back in Aberdeen at our scheduled finishing time. Gilbert
