As everyone will know Aberdeen & environs have been held firmly in the grip of wintry weather over the last week or so with the result that this walk, regrettably, had to be cancelled at the last minute. Apologies are extended to all those brave souls who turned up on the day only to be disappointed. I have been a club member for about 15 years and this is the only time that I can recall that a walk had to be cancelled.

There were several reasons for this, the main one being that our usual driver could not get to the bus depot from their home due to the snow & ice on the roads. Attempts were made to arrange for a replacement driver but this would have meant walkers waiting for at least an extra hour in temperatures of minus six degrees centigrade. There was also the matter that the walk would have to have started on the main road above Crawton which would have involved extra time to walk down an icy road resulting in time pressures in getting to Stonehaven before failing daylight.

After taking all of these factors into account it was determined that cancellation of the walk was the most sensible action.
