Walk Notes

Our walk today takes us to the Angus Glens to climb two of the lower hills between Glenisla and Glen Prosen.

The walk starts in Glen Prosen at the farm of Wester Lednathie (NGR.327.631) in Glen Uig. Just past the farm cross a burn and take a path which climbs south eastwards up the shoulder of Monthrey through a wood and on towards Bodandere Hill. At the dip before the top of Bodandere Hill leave the path and turn eastwards up the north west ridge of Cat Law to reach the summit cairn and trig point (678m., 2223 ft.)

From the summit head east northeastwards along the high ground to reach the summit of the next hill – Long Goat (571m., 1872ft.) From this top descend east southeastwards towards a burn which passed a plantation of trees and pick up a track beyond the trees which leads to the glen road at NGR.358.611 near Muir of Pearsie. Follow the road southwards towards the farm of Bykenhillock where we leave it and first follow the farm access road before a track which branches left and crosses a burn before heading up the bank of the River Prosen to a footbridge at NGR.366.606. Cross this bridge and take a path which climbs up towards the farm of Glackburn where a road junction is reached. Take the road heading eastwards from this junction through trees to reach the hotel and hamlet of Dykehead (NGR.387.601) where the bus will be waiting in the car park.

About half way along the road from Glackburn look out for an interesting memorial erected by local people to commemorate the fact that in preparation for their attempt at the South Pole in 1912, Scott and others in the party spent some time in this area while planning the expedition.
