Tarves to Ellon

This walk is 17km/ 10.5 miles through the Aberdeenshire countryside, following well defined paths.

From The Square in Tarves, head South along Old Aberdeen road, after approx 1 Km take the path to the right of the new house. This will climb through some woods and continues for a further 2 km to Raitshill.
A potential addition to the route to visit Tolquhon Castle is signposted at approx 2.2 km from start of walk, (allow at least 30-40 mins if you decide to add).

At Raitshill a tarmac road leads downhill to Dalchon where the route returns to a public footpath (Waypoint 3, Grid Ref NJ 870 280) to Pitmedden House. In August this section was somewhat overgrown so waterprrof footwear and trousers are advised if it has been wet prior to the walk.

The route skirts around Pitmedden House and emerges into a field, follow fenceline around to a kissing gate next to the houses at Pitmedden.

The next section follows the main road through Pitmedden and a paved path parallel to the B999 road.
At approx 7.5 Km into the walk ( Waypoint 4, Grid Ref NJ 898 267) is the Coffee Apothecary, a great stop for hot drinks and a variety of cakes and hot food options.
Shortly after the Cafe the route leaves the paved path and follows a well defined public footpath cross county for 2 km where the route joins the Fortmartine & Buchan Way.
The remainder of the walk into Ellon follows the F&B Way for 6 km.

At Waypoint 5 ( Grid Ref. NJ 947 303) prior to the bridge take the steps down to the riverside path and follow into Ellon town centre.
If you have made good time there are numerous Cafe’s and Bars to explore whilst waiting on your fellow walkers.
