Walk Notes

Our walk today takes us into Glen Lethnot, one of the lesser known of the Angus Glens. We will be dropped off part way along Glen Lethnot, approximately 8 miles west of Edzell, at Stonyford on this unclassified road.
The bus will then travel back to Edzell and head westwards along Glen Esk to its end at the car park at Invermark, which is our pick-up point. There are no suggested alternative walks today, as this is a scheduled “through walk”, unless you choose to travel with the bus to its destination and “do your own thing” in this area. There are plenty of lovely walks around the Loch Lee and Glen Mark areas. Please advise your Committee organiser as to your intentions.

The walk commences at Stonyford (NGR 505 725) in Glen Lethnot.
Cross the road bridge and walk northwestwards along the road for about 350m. Take the footpath on the north side of the road near (NGR 503 727) and head westwards towards Tillybardine. After about 900m, at approximately (NGR 494 730), this path splits and you take the right hand path that heads northwestwards up the valley between Turf Hill and West Craig. After around 2km, you enter the Clash of Wirren. This small ravine guides you basically northwards to soon cross the Burn of Berryhill and arrive at the col between Garlet (522m) to your left and Cowie Hill (440m) on your right. Another split in the track soon occurs here at (NGR 488 773). Take the right hand path which takes you northwards to Buskhead and onwards over a footbridge on the River North Esk to reach the small village of Tarfside (with public toilets). Take a footpath on the west side of the bridge over the Water of Tarff (NGR 491 797). This path heads westwards around the north side of Hill of Rowan (with its Monument) towards Westbank farm, and onwards to eventually reach the carpark (NGR 447 803) at Invermark, where the bus will be situated.
