Walk Notes

The walk today follows an interesting part of the Kincardineshire coastline, passing through the villages of Johnshaven and Gourdon. We will be dropped off near St. Cyrus and the bus will travel back northwards to Inverbervie. This walk is a through one, so members who require a shorter walk – please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.

Route 1:- St. Cyrus to Inverbervie
The walk commences at NGR 759 657 at the junction of the A92 and St Cyrus Caravan Park. From here walk SE’wards past West Mathers farm towards the houses at Tangleha’ on the coast. Continue NE’wards along the shore passing Seagreens and the “Narrows” to eventually reach Johnshaven. At the far side of this village, pick up a path which runs parallel with the dismantled Montrose to Inverbervie railway line. The route continues NE passing Haughs of Benholm (813 688) and eventually arrives at the village of Gourdon. Here, we pass the harbour and follow the shore N’wards to reach Inverbervie. The bus will be conveniently parked near the demolished site of the railway station (NGR 833 723).

Route 2:- Johnshaven to Inverbervie
The bus will drop you off at the bus stop at NGR 797 876 on the A92 junction to walk into Johnshaven. Walk SE’wards towards the harbour then turn left towards Gourdon. Follow the route as in Route 1 from here to continue to Inverbervie
