Walk Notes

The bus will be parked all day in the car park at the Spital of Glenshee Hotel from where various circular walks are possible.
Most of these start from the old bridge and follow the Shee Water up the valley towards Dalmunzie Hotel, either by the access road on the west bank or by the track from the church up the east bank.

(1) Glas Tulaichean (1051 m, 3447 ft) : take one of the two routes up the valley for a mile to Dalmunzie Hotel (NGR 108.700). After passing the hotel continue past the adjacent farm up Glen Lochsie either by the private railway track on the east side of the glen or cross the Glen Lochsie Burn at a footbridge (NGR 083.715) and take the track up the west bank. Both routes lead to the ruin of Glenlochsie Lodge at a junction of burns.
From there take the track which climbs northwestwards behind the ruin up the long ridge of Breac-Reidh. This turns northwards and after about two miles with mossy turf and patches of scree leads to the summit of Glas Tulaichean. From the summit descend north-northeastwards round the edge of the east facing corries to a grassy col at the head of Glas Choire Beag. Descend the grassy slopes into this corrie following the burn down into the main glen of the Allt Easgaidh. The latter is then followed southwards to join a landrover track which crosses to the east bank and leads down Glen Taitneach for five miles to the Spital.
Walking distance = 14 miles + ascent of 700 metres (2300 ft)
Time to allow = about 8 hours

(2) Beinn Earb (801m, 2627 ft) : from the Spital take the path opposite the hotel southwestwards up the burn into Coire Lairige to the col of An Lairig at the head of the glen. From there climb the ridge to the right to reach a 723 metre top and follow the ridge westwards to the summit of Beinn Earb. From the summit descend northwestwards round the edge of Coire A’Ghearraig to an 854 metre top and continue on the ridge to the summit of Meall A’Choire Bhuidhe (868 m, 2847 ft). From the summit descend northeastwards into Glen Lochsie to pick up the track beside a wood which contours the west side of the glen back to the Spital.
Walking distance = 8 miles + ascent of 518 metres (1699 ft)
Time to allow = about 5 hours

(3) For walkers looking for longer walk and climb take the track up Glen Taitneach all the way to it’s head, then drop down to Loch Nan Eun. From there climb to the summit of Beinn Iutharn Bheag (953m, 3125 ft) or Beinn Iutharn Mor (1045m, 3427 ft) may be tackled before returning down the glen back to the spital.
