The walk today sees your Club in the lower Donside area to finish with a festive meal at the Kintore Arms in Inverurie. AHWC last visited this area in January 2008. This walk is a through one, so members who require a shorter walk – please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.

Our walk commences at the “cycle trail” car park in Pitfichie Forest (NGR 656 132), where we follow the wide track W’wards, but it soon swings N’wards passing a stone circle on the left. At NGR 646 142, turn sharp left to head W’wards uphill on a good path through the forest and at NGR 641 142, turn right and head N’wards up the path to gain the summit of Green Hill (399m). Descend from the summit, and head N’wards and then at NGR 644 162, E’wards, both on good paths to gain the summit of Cairn William (448m). Descend from the summit on a new zig-zag path to join a wide track (NGR 661 171) on the west side of Pitfichie Hill. Turn sharp right here and follow the track downhill to a junction of paths at NGR 664 162. Head NW’wards through the forest and eventually turn down a narrow track (NGR 672 166) to soon reach an unclassified road near Pitfichie Castle. Turn left and walk along this road for about 600m and then head approx. E’wards on a path towards the River Don. Walk S’wards along the side of the river, pass under the road bridge and at approx. NGR 681 159, go SE’wards on a wide path through the forest and on reaching NGR 687 155, walk SW’wards into Monymusk. Your bus will be conveniently parked near the village hall in Monymusk (NGR 684 152).
