N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.
The walk today, takes your Club back into the Strathdon area to walk a low range of hills between Corgarff and Glen Gairn. Graham Sangster suggested this walk and your Committee included it in the 2017 Programme. This walk is a through-one, so members who require a shorter, or alternative, walk, please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.
Our walk starts just beyond Corgarff (NGR 261 086) where we follow part of the old military road which was built from Crathie to Tomintoul in the 18th Century. Head SE’wards along the south side of the River Don, passing Ordgarff and Dellachuper. Just past the Delavine Burn, head S’wards on a good wide track, (ignore a path going N’wards towards Delavine) and climb to the summit of Carn Leac Saighaeir (699m). From this top, walk SW’wards to Camock Hill (692m) and descend over Tom a’ Chata into the valley of Allt Coire nam Freumh. Here we pick up a path round the west shoulder of Fox Cairn to descend into the valley of the River Gairn near Tullochmacarrick. Here, we take the path on the north side of the River Gairn and follow it eastwards to come out on the A939 road at the road bridge near Gairnshiel Lodge. Our bus will be parked in the vicinity of the lodge (NGR 294 009).
Walking distance approx. 10 miles
Bus departs from Gairnshiel at 3.30pm.
