Walk Notes

Today’s walk takes us from the upper Don valley at Corgarff over a ridge of low hills to Glen Gairn.
We also follow a part of the old Ca and Camus Roads which were once Drovers routes over these hills to the cattle marts.

Walk 1. The main walk commences just beyond Corgarff at NGR262 087, where part of the Old Military Road from Tomintoul to Crathie leaves the A939 and heads south eastwards following the south side of the River Don towards Ordgarff.
At a track junction (NGR263 083), either head east following the old military road towards Delachuper and Delavine to reach another track junction at NGR 285 068 then head south climbing the hill towards The Ca and following the track to cross the Delavine Burn and up onto Carn Leac Saighdeir. On reaching the south col of this hill we turn southwards and climb to the summit of Camock Hill (692m).
Alternatively, from the first track junction (NGR263 083) head south from Ordgarff towards Carn Mor and continue to Carn Meadhonach and the final climb to Camock Hill (692).
From this summit top ,descend south eastwards towards a small lochanin the col but before reaching it, turn south over Tom a’ Chatha to pick up a path which descends into the glen of Allt Coire nam Freumh. Here we join a path before crossing the burn and follow it around the west shoulder of Fox Cairn to reach the ruins of Tullochmacarrick and the river Gairn. Cross over the bridge and follow the track south via Rineten to reach the parking area at Braenaloin on the B976 road where the bus will be parked. (NGR 281 000)
