Bus departs Aberdeen at 9.00am.
Our walk today follows a stretch of the Buchan coastline from the Loch of Strathbeg to Fraserburgh, passing through the villages of St Combs and Inverallochy.
This walk is a through route, therefore there is limited shorter alternatives, though it may be possible to drop off any walkers at St Combs for a shorter walkalong the coast to Inverallochy and onwards to the sands at Fraserburgh Bay.
The bus will firstly drop off the main party of walkers at the ruined Chapel near Old Rattery (NGR 089578}, on the unclassified road from the A90 near Crimond village. Continue along this unclassified road to a fork where we take the left-hand branch and head westwards towards the end of the Loch of Strathbeg.
Continue from the end of the Loch and head for the bridge at the outlet stream from the Loch to the sea (NGR 066604).
NOTE THIS IS THE ONLY FOOTBRIDGE OVER THE STREAM.
Follow the path northwards for about a mile to reach a junction of tracks near Boatlea Cottage (NGR 061626). The track to the right leads around the shore to reach the outskirts of St Combs near the ruins of St Columba’s Church. A zigzag route through the lanes and narrow street leads to the northern edge of Charlestown.
Continue on the track and follow the old track bed of the disused railway line to reach Inverallochy and eventually arrive at the bridge crossing the Water of Pilorth.
Cross over the bridge and follow the B9033 alongside the edge of the golf course to reach Fraserburgh esplanade where the bus will be parked (NGR 000662).
