N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.
The walk today, takes your Club back into the popular Angus Glens. We travel to the very end of Glen Esk to the Invermark carpark and once personnel are offloaded, our bus will then travel back northwards to Glen Tanar to our pick-up at the Glen Tanar visitor carpark. Carlos Oldani suggested this walk and your Committee included it in the 2015 Programme. Your Club last did this walk in May 2008 when we had a lovely day, with the broom in Glen Tanar in full bloom and, at its best in vibrant yellow. This walk is a through-one, so members who require a shorter, or alternative, walk, please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.
Our walk starts at Invermark (NGR 447 803), where we head W’wards past the church and NW’wards past the cottage of Auchronie and onwards to Queen’s Well in Glen Mark. Continue past Glenmark cottage and ascend the track of the Knowe of Crippley, on the west side of the Ladder Burn, to a split in the path (approx. NGR 405 852). Take the right option and head N’wards on a newish path for the summit of Mount Keen (939m), the most easterly “Munro” in Scotland. From the summit, descend the Mounth Road into Glen Tanar, to the newish Coire Bhruaich bridge over the Water of Tanar (approx. NGR 406 896). Once over the bridge, turn right after a short distance, on to a wide track and, head NE’wards down the whole length of Glen Tanar (for almost 7.5 miles), beside the river, passing the “halfway hut” en route, to our bus at the carpark, (NGR 480 965). near the Braeloine Visitor Centre
Walking distance approx. 14 miles
Bus departs from Glen Tanar at 5.30pm.
In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted.
Relevant telephone number for Grampian police is 0845 600 5700 or 999.
Committee member in charge today is Alistair Condie
