Pub Stop?: No O/S Map Sheet No.: 45 Grid Ref. Start: Grid Ref. Finish Walk (Miles): 9 Walk Hours: Bus Time to Walk: Bus Time from Walk: Departure time from walk:Walk Notes
Our walk today takes us through some of the lower hills and forest between Glen Dye and the Feugh Valley to reach our destination near to the Bridge of Bogendreip on the B974.
Since there are many tracks and track junctions in the forest on this walk, members are advised for safety reasons to keep in groups, if possible, and to ensure that at least one member in each group carries the O.S. map and can navigate. We will be dropped off on the unclassified road, between Blairdryne and Strachan, near Moss-side at the Burn of Curran. The bus will then travel onwards to the B974 and the Bridge of Bogendreip, for our pick-up point. There are no suggested alternative walks today, as this is a scheduled “through walk”, unless you choose to travel with the bus to its destination and “do your own thing” in this area. Please advise your Committee organiser as to your intentions.
The walk commences near Moss-side at the Burn of Curran (NGR 699 916), which is approximately 1.7 miles to the east of Strachan on an unclassified road. Head southwards on a good track for about 1.5 miles past the hill of Blairourie (218m) to your left. The route veers south eastwards and climbs gently towards a path junction (NGR 707 888) near Glenskinnan. Take the right hand track which climbs and zig-zags southwestwards up to the summit cairn of Kerloch (534m). From the summit, descend southwards a short distance to regain your incoming track, then head southwestwards towards the edge of the forest at (NGR 692 874). Follow this same track downwards through the forest towards the Builg Burn. At a track junction (NGR 673 873), go left and head west-northwestwards to clear the forest and soon head northwards back into the forest to follow the east side of the Water of Dye. This good track then follows the valley of the Dye through the forest, west of Craig of Dalfro, northwards to eventually reach the Bridge of Bogendreip where the bus will be parked (NGR 663 909).
