Walk Notes

A.H.W.C. Lossiemouth (Seatown) to Fochabers (including part of the Speyside Way).
6th April 2014. O.S.Map 28 (Elgin & Dufftown).
N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.
The walk today takes our Club to the Moray Firth coast to walk E’wards from Lossiemouth towards the River Spey, before joining part of the Speyside Way, then heading southwards to Fochabers. Frank Kelly put forward this walk on his “suggestion sheet” and your Committee included this outing in the AHWC 2014 Programme. This walk is a “through one”, so members who require a shorter walk – please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.
We commence at Lossiemouth Seatown (NGR 237 704), from where we cross the bridge over the Spynie Canal and head SE’wards along the Western banks of the River Lossie. Cross this river at Arthur’s Bridge (NGR 253 672) and also cross the bridge over the Innes Canal to gain the Innes Links. Continue E’wards along the southern edge of the Innes Links forest for about 7km to eventually reach the east edge of this forest (NGR 318 655). A path continues E’wards from the forest edge, passing the entrance to Gladhill farm, heading for the outskirts of Kingston and onwards to the village of Garmouth. At the east side of Garmouth, cross the River Spey on the disused railway bridge and join the Speyside Way coming south from Spey Bay. This well defined and waymarked path is followed S’wards for approx. 6km to Fochabers. Your bus will be parked in Fochabers at approx. (NGR 342 589).
Walking distance approx. 13 miles
