N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.
O.S.Maps 58 & 59 (Perth to Alloa & St. Andrews).

The walk today takes us south from Aberdeen into the Kingdom of Fife. Alistair Condie suggested this walk and your Committee included it on our 2017 Walks Programme. This walk is a through-one, so members who require a shorter, or different, walk – please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge today.

We commence the walk in the village of Balgedie (NGR 172 036) on the A911(Milnathort/Glenrothes) road. Head NNW’wards towards Glenlomond, where a path (NGR 169 046) is taken firstly NE’wards, soon E’wards and then N’wards into Glen Vale and follow a path to the top of West Lomond (522m). From the summit trig, descend to a path going E’wards across Balharvie Moss and below Craigen Gow passing Miller’s Loch to reach a picnic site (NGR 228 062) near Craigmead. Continue E’wards to the summit of East Lomond (424m) with good views (on a fine day) of Falkland Palace to the north. From this top, a path heads down towards a radio station site on Purin Hill. The access road leads down through a plantation of trees to soon reach the A912 (Glenrothes to Falkland) main road at NGR 273 062. Turn left (NW’wards), and walk for about 200m along this road (care with passing traffic). Go through a gate, on your right side of this road, which follows a burn, passing Little Freuchie, to eventually reach the village of Freuchie, where our bus will be parked (NGR 281 067).
Walking distance approx. 12 miles

Bus departs at 5.30pm.

In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted.
Relevant telephone number for East Fife Police is 101 (non-emergency) or 999.

Committee member in charge today is Alistair Condie
