Walk Notes

This week your club is heading to Dunkeld with a climb up Deuchary Hill which, weather permitting, should give good views of the surrounding area. The walk will be through moorland passing multiple beautiful lochs including Loch Ordie and then ending with tracks through woodland. Hope to see you there!

First walk – for fast walkers

  1. From the car park head East and then turn left (North) until you get to a fork in the road (NO 024442) and take the right hand path and continue on past Upper Hatton. Cross a bridge, continuing on the East path as it loops back round to the N/NNE direction until you reach the ‘The Glack’ driveway.
  2. Take the left path through the gate and continue on until there is a fork in the road (NO 031461) taking the right hand path to go round the eastern side of Mill Dam. Continue to follow the path, crossing a bridge (NO 031472) and immediately take the right hand fork.
  3. You will cross two streams and after shortly the second there will be a narrow path up the hill for the optional climb up Deuchary Hill. (This can be skipped if you don’t fancy the climb or are short on time as you go up and down the same route re-joining the same path.) Head left (NE) as you re-join the path. Turn left at NO 049485 with Grewshill on your left
  4. Keep Buckney Burn on your right and ignore the track to Riemore Lodge, instead taking the left track (NO 045494) and follow the track that goes left to hug the Southern shore of Loch Ordie. Follow the path, passing to the south side of Lochordie Lodge, crossing a stone bridge at the far West side of Loch Ordie and then turn left on the SW path.
  5. Stay on this path crossing another bridge following the Dowally Burn on your right until you reach Raor Lodge. Head left at the junction (NO 016478) and pass both Dowally Loch and Rotmell Loch on your right.
  6. Head back towards Mill Dam but turn right before reaching it (NO 028466) Follow the path SW through the woods and then open ground. Turn left at the junction (NO 009459) and head South until you join the road. Turn left and take care following the road for 500m.
  7. Follow the sign for Polney Loch passing it on the right hand shore. Once past the loch, ignore tracks on the left and then right, heading NE to eventually reach the cark park.
