Walk Notes

The walk today is in Upper Deeside and traverses part of the Balmoral Estate.
The walk commences on South Deeside Road B976 at Littlemill (NGR 324 957) where we alight the bus by the bridge over the Girnock Burn. We then walk along the west bank of the burn in a south-westerly direction alongside the burn, then turn south at a junction in the paths (NGR 321 953), cross another bridge onto the track up Glen Girnock. Continue on this track past Loinveg (NGR 315 934), past the junction to Camlet, and onto a junction at paths (NGR 309 919). Turn right at this point and continue past Bovaglie (NGR 302 919) until you reach another junction in paths (NGR 290 922). For those who wish to walk up Tom Bad a’Mhonaidh (473m) turn left for a short walk up the hill, then come back down in a north-westerly direction to meet the path again (NGR 287 925). All of us then continue in a north-westerly direction on the track downhill passing Buailteach (NGR 276 932) towards the Balmoral Distillery. We reach a secondary road (NGR 271 938). We turn left into the village of Easter Balmoral to South Deeside Road (NGR 264 942). Turn right and walk a short distance to a suspension bridge over the River Dee. Cross this bridge and walk past the ruins of St Manir’s Church, then turn left to the car park for Balmoral Castle. The bus will be parked in the coach park.

NOTE:
Should there be adverse weather preventing the use of the suspension bridge then turn LEFT at South Deeside Road and walk for about a kilometre past the gates to Balmoral, cross the bridge over the River Dee (NGR 261 949) to reach the coach park where the bus will be parked (NGR 263 949).
