Walk Notes

Today we head up Deeside to Linn of Dee. All the walks are circular walks.

1. Devils Point (1004m).

Leave the bus at the Linn of Dee car park (NGR 063 898) and head NW’wards to reach Derry Lodge.

Cross the Derry Burn footbridge, turn left and follow the path along Glen Luibeg. If the water is low, it is possible to cross the Luibeg Burn at NGR 015 939, otherwise, head upstream approx. 500m to the Luibeg Footbridge and make a safe crossing.

Your route then eventually follows a good path along the S side of Carn a’ Mhaim to enter Glen Dee on the east side of the River Dee. Cross the river to Corrour Bothy(NGR 982 958) and follow the path W’wards uphill then SE’Wards to reach the summit of The Devils Point.

Retrace your steps back to the Linn of Dee car park.

2. Derry Cairngorm (1156m).

Take the route to Derry Lodge, do not cross the bridge,

Continue N’wards along the path on the East side of Glen Derry for about 3 miles before veering W’wards into Coire Etchachan. (NGR 036 991)Ascend the path towards Loch Etchachan and take the path SW’wards to approx. (NGR 008 997) where you turn off the path & head Southeastwards towards Derry Cairngorm.

Keep to the high ground and go Southwards towards Carn Crom (890m), descend towards Derry Lodge and return to Linn of Dee car park.

3. Glen Quoich.

Take the route as if heading to Derry Lodge until you reach the Black Bridge (NGR 063 915).

Cross the bridge and immediately head back SE’wards through Doire Bhraghad turn E’Wards (NGR 081 902). This path ascends the hillside for about 750m (distance) before swinging sharp left (NGR 088 904). HeadN’wards across the plateau to the forest which then descends N’wards into Glen Quoich (NGR 080 936).

Head SE’Wards along the water until you reach The Punch Bowl. Continue down the path until you reach the road which can be followed back to Linn of Dee car park.

A slight detour can be made to pass Mar Lodge (NGR 099 902) before rejoining the road further along.

Bus departs Linn of Dee car park for Aberdeen at 6.30 pm. There may be a pub stop but only if time allows.
