Our walk today takes us from the Deeside Valley, north-west of Ballater, northwards through the hills into the reaches of Upper Strathdon at Cock Bridge. We will be dropped off at the end of the secondary road near the farm of Lary and the bus will then travel over the Glen Gairn A939 road to be situated near the Allargue Hotel at Cock Bridge, for our pick-up point. There are no suggested alternative walks today, as this is a scheduled “through walk”, unless you choose to travel with the bus to its destination and “do your own thing” in this area. Please advise your Committee organiser as to your intentions.
The bus will drop off walkers at the end of the secondary road at Lary (327m) (on the east side of Glen Gairn) at NGR 336 003. From here, head north westwards towards Inverenzie and onwards through Glen Fenzie, on the east side of the Glen Fenzie Burn towards the ruined lodge at Glenfenzie (NGR 315 029). A path heads northwards from the west side of this ruin to steadily climb towards Scraulac (741m). This hill is climbed by leaving the path and climbing to its top for good views over both the Deeside and Donside Valleys. Return to the path from its summit and descend westwards to pick up a good track at about NGR 307 057. Follow this track downhill by a big zig-zag to eventually arrive at the A939 road. Turn right and walk down this road for about 400m and branch off left at about NGR 296 064 onto a good track which is the “Old Military Road”. Continue northwestwards on this track crossing the Burn of Tornahaish, Delavine Burn and Allt Damh towards Delachuper (NGR 268 078) and eventually to the A939 north of Ordgarff. Turn left here and walk along the road (take care here for passing traffic) for about a kilometre to arrive at the bus parked near the bridge NGR 257 092 over the River Don at Cockbridge (opposite the Allargue Hotel).
