N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.
The walk today sees your Club in the hills to the south of the Glenshee area, finishing at the Spittal of Glenshee hotel, where our coach will be parked. Graham Sangster suggested this walk and your Committee included it in its 2015 Programme. This walk is a through one, so members who require a shorter, or different walk – please indicate your intention with the committee member in charge of the bus.
Our walk commences on the A924, at the village of Kirkmichael (NGR 080 601), where we cross the bridge over the River Ardle and head NW’wards towards Tullochcurran and onwards to Loch Cottage. Pick up a path heading N’wards along the west side of this small loch and onwards through the forest to gain Dalreoch. Once more, cross the River Ardle on a bridge and then enter Enochdhu village. At the north side of this village, follow the road along the west side of the river towards Dirnanean. Continue along this road, ignoring tracks on both sides, until a split in the route at NGR 073 644, just before the Allt Dubhagan. Take the left hand track N’wards into Calamanach Wood and once through the wood and out into open ground, continue past the east side of Elrig (588m). Your path ignores a track coming in from the right at NGR 082 673 and climbs steadily NE’wards to the col at An Lairig (645m) on the SE side of Ben Earb (801m). It then descends from this col, on a good path, NE’wards into Coire Lairige, before the final descent to the Spittal of Glenshee hotel carpark, where our bus will be parked (NGR 111 698).
Distance approx. 9 miles.
Bus departs at 3.30pm.
In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted.
Relevant telephone number for Grampian police is 0845 600 5700 or 999.
Committee member in charge today is Graham Sangster
