The walk today sees your Club in lower Deeside, commencing on an unclassified road, off the “Slug Road” area to finish at the Bridge of Bogendreip, on the Cairn o’ Mount Road (B974). Frank Kelly suggested this walk and your Committee included it in the 2017 Programme. AHWC last visited this area in November 2010. This walk is a through-one, so members who require a shorter, or different walk – please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.
Our walk commences at the Hill o’Nine Stanes car park (NGR 724 911). From the bus head downhill (S’wards) through Garrol Hill woods to a gate in a dyke. On the other side of this wall, a path heads (SW’wards) on the west side of Shillofad (368m) towards NGR 715 882 and veers NW just before the trees. Your onwards route veers again at Glenskinnan (SW’wards) and, climbs steadily, initially through the forest into open ground and, then to the summit of Kerloch (534m). From the summit trig, descend steadily to NGR 682 868 to a junction of paths. Continue (NW’wards) for about 1km, ignoring paths going NE towards Hare Hill and later SW to Heatheryhaugh. On entering the forest again (NGR 663 879) your onwards path of about 2.5 miles, eventually passes the west side of Craig of Dalfro, on your way to our bus near Bridge of Bogendreip (NGR 663 910).
