Today’s walk crosses the range of hills between the valleys of the rivers Dee and Don with a short visit to the Avon valley.
The walk commences at Keiloch on the Invercauld estate (NGR 188.914) where we take the estate road towards Invercauld House but branch off to the right before reaching it and head northwards through the tree to cross the col between Meall Gorm and Creag A’Chait on the Bealach Dearg track leading to the bothy at NGR 180.981. From this point there are two alternative routes for a short distance
a) either descend by the Allt Na Claise Moire northwards into Glen Gairn, crossing the Gairn by a footbridge, then following the west bank of the river Gairn down towards Loch Builg.
Or b) continue on the track over the shoulder of Culardoch Hill before descending into Glen Gairn and following the east bank of the river towards Loch Builg.
The two routes meet again to take the path on the east side of Loch Builg northwards into Glen Builg which leads down to reach Inchrory in the valley of the Avon. At Inchrory Lodge take the track on the right which climbs up out of the valley past Lagganauld and contours the hillside eastwards to drop down into the Upper Don Valley at Inchmore.
From there we follow the track on the south side of the river eastwards past Delnadamph Lodge and Badochurn to reach Cock Bridge and the A939 road. The bus will be parked in the car park over the bridge across the river Don opposite the Allargue Hotel (NGR 258.092)
