Today’s walk starts on the South Deeside road but eventually follows the trackbed of the disused Deeside railway line.
We commence about a half mile north west of Inchmarnoch at NGR 419 967 and head into the forest of Torphantrick Wood on basically a northerly course which eventually takes us to the suspension bridge over the River Dee at Cambus o’ May. Cross the bridge and head south eastwards towards the old Cambus o’May railway station. Continue on the disused rail trackbed which is now designated as a walkway/cycle track. This route runs almost parallel with the A93 North Deeside Road on its south side and traverses the Muir of Dinnet to eventually reach Dinnet village close to the local hotel. The walkway continues basically eastwards past Mill of Dinnet and the Deeside Gliding Airfield before entering the outskirts of Aboyne. Keep heading eastwards towards the parking area in Aboyne square where the bus will be parked near the public toilets and Huntly Arms Hotel (NGR 527 986).
