Walk Notes

Please note that Bus fares have been increased by £1 for current walking season. Member’s bus fare is now £11 & Non-Member’s fare is £16. It would be appreciated if the correct fare is provided on the day.

N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.

The walk today takes us into the northside of the Dee Valley to walk over Hill o’ Fare and finish at the carpark behind the Raemoir Hotel. This walk is a through one, so members who require a shorter or different walk – please indicate your intentions with the committee member in charge of the bus.

The walk commences on the B977 Raemoir/Echt road near the farm of Wester Tillyshogle (NGR 743 036), where a forestry track leaves the road on its west side. This track heads into the forest and after about 200 yards, go right (north) at a T-junction. This wide track soon swings NW’wards to reach a junction of paths near an overhead high voltage power line. Take the left path and climb SW’wards uphill, above the Landerberry Burn. This path emerges from the trees and skirts the edge of the forest on your right heading towards Graymore (393m) at NGR 718 036.

The following is now up to you!!. Two walks are now described which both begin here and terminate behind Raemoir Hotel.

1.At approx. NGR 718 036, a path heads off to the left (roughly SSW) and soon reaches a T-junction where the left option is taken and eventually climbs to the summit of Meikle Tap (359m) with fine views over the Lower Dee valley. From this summit, return to the T-junction (715 028) and head SW’wards into the forest to a T- junction (NGR 709 025). Go right (N’wards) which soon veers W’wards to gain a clearing at a junction of paths (NGR 698 025). Go left here and follow this wide track past Brown Hill and Myre Hill, passing the old Raemoir Quarry site, to eventually reach The Green (NGR 703 997). Turn sharp right beside these buildings and go W’wards on a narrow, sometimes quite boggy, path back to Raemoir hotel (NGR 695 995). Walking distance approx.10miles.

2. From the path junction at NGR 718 036, the route ascends towards Graymore, but before reaching the summit, it swings SW’wards towards Blackyduds (433m) and eventually arrives at a remote locked bothy (NGR 678 018) near the eastern slopes of Hill of Corfeidy. Go E’wards from the bothy passing Craigrath (436m) and The Skairs. At the next split, go SW’wards down the west side of Craigbeg (272m) to soon turn left (SE’wards) near a hut on your left and continue downhill (SE’wards) to the car park behind Raemoir Hotel. Walking distance approx. 10 miles.

Bus departs at 2.30pm.

In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted.

Relevant telephone number for Grampian Police is 0845 600 5700 or 999.
