Walk Notes

Todays walk through the forests of Rothiemurchas, Inshriach and Moor of Feshie follows a part of the Thieves Road (Rathad nam Mearlach), a route used historically by reivers from Badenoch when descending into the low country on Morayshire.
The walk begins in Glenmore Forest Park at a car park. Just where a track leaves the road to Cairn Gorm and heads westwards along the south shore of Loch Morlich to a track junction at the west end of the loch (NGR.955.093). Take the left hand branch which leads to another junction (NGR.949.082), where a path leaves the track and heads southwestwards towards the Allt Druidh burn to cross the Cairngorm Club footbridge. A track then leads southwestwards past Achnagoichan to head for the east side of Loch an Eilein. Here a path then skirts the south side of the loch and also the east side of Loch Gamhna before turning westwards. It then joins a track through the Moor of Feshie coming from a bothy and comes out on the B970 road at Feshiebridge. We cross the bridge and then take a secondary road to the right past Mill Cottage and Invereshie House, leading to the bridge over the River Spey at Kincraig. Cross the bridge and look for our bus in the village near the east side of the railway line (Ngr.833.058)
