Walk Notes

The walk today take us from the Howe o the Mearns over the hills between Kerloch and the Slug Road to finish near the River Feugh. Since there are many track junctions and paths involved on this route close attention to the map will be required today.

The walk begins on the secondary road running from Fetteresso to Auchinblae at NGR 731.819 between Glenfarquhar Lodge and the farm of Milton of Dellavaird. Here a farm road heads northwards towards West Bogton Farm, but just before reaching the farm, a road branches left into the trees around Scare Hill and a track heads northwards past Leachie Hill to a junction of tracks at NGR 733.868. Here take the left hand track which rounds Monluth Hill, crosses a burn, and then skirts the west side of Shillofad before turning northwards again to enter at Garrol Wood at NGR 721.901. This leads to the secondary road on Garrol Hill near the Nine Stanes stone circle. Turn left and follow the road round Mullach Hill to a junction at NGR 718.914. Take the right hand branch which passes another stone circle and leads to West Mulloch Farm where we pick up a track beside a third stone circle and enter the trees of Rhindbuckie Wood. Take the left hand track in the trees which heads northwards round the slopes of Craig of Affrusk to come out on a secondary road at Tilquhillie Cottage, NGR 706.946. The Bridge of Feugh lies about a quarter of a mile to the left and the bus will be parked at a convenient place on this road.
