Today, we are back in one of the Angus Glens – Glen Prosen. Gilbert McCurdy suggested this walk and your Committee included it in the 2016 Programme. Your Club last did this walk in April 2005 – it was a fine day then, with glorious views in all directions – let’s hope we get a similar day. The outing today is a through-one, so members who require a shorter, or different, walk – please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.
From the bus at NGR 290 681, at the end of the Glen Prosen road, head towards Runtaleave and NW’wards on a good track, for approximately 3 miles, towards the ruin at Kilbo. Continue westwards, then ascend SW’wards into the narrow ravine of “Glack of Balquader”. Once through this narrow gorge, ascend SE’wards to gain the summit of Craigie Thieves (689m). Continue on the high ground to an unnamed top at 663m and onwards towards Craig Daunie (631m). Our route continues S’wards to a split in the path at NGR 247 647. Continue S’wards, ignoring a path on your left at NGR 247 643. At NGR 248 636, go left on a wide track and head towards the bus parked near Glenhead Farm (NGR 260 628).
Walking distance approx. 13 miles.
Bus departs at 5.00pm.
In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted.
Relevant telephone number for Angus police is 101 or 999.
Committee member in charge today is Graham Sangster
