Walk Notes

Map 44 (Ballater).

N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.
The walk today sees your Club in the hills in the Glen Prosen/Glen Clova area,
finishing near Braedownie in Glen Clova, where our coach will be parked. Kevin
Williams suggested this walk and your Committee included it in its 2016 Programme.
This walk is a through-one, so members who require a shorter, or different walk –
please indicate your intention(s) with the committee member in charge of the bus.
Our walk commences near Glen Prosen Lodge (NGR 290 681) at the end of the Glen
Prosen unclassified road. From the bus head downhill towards Runtaleave and then
Old Craig and continue on a good track NW’wards to a split in the path (NGR 267
693). Take this path, on the right and, ascend N’wards to gain Lick (633m), and the
Shank of Dreish and onwards to Dreish trig point (947m). From this summit, head
W’wards on a good path, which descends past the Shank of Drumfollow, to cross the
Kilbo Path and onwards to the summit of Mayar (928m). From this summit, head
N’wards towards spectacular Corrie Fee and descend on the east side of the Fee Burn
on the newish path to the base of this corrie (NGR 254 753). Continue into the forest
and follow this track over the White Water bridge, ignoring a path coming in on the
left (NGR 263 757). Follow this wide track E’wards, ignoring the “Jock’s Road” path
(NGR 268 760) going W’wards. Continue E’wards past Acharn to the Glen Clova
Visitor Centre and our bus parked near Braedownie (NGR 285 760) on the east side of
the River South Esk coming down from the upper reaches of Glen Clova.
Distance approx. 11 miles.
Bus departs at 4.00pm.
In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be
contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted.
Relevant telephone number for Angus police is 101 or 999.
Committee member in charge today is Janet Rickard
