Glen Ey Circular – The Munro Carn Bhac & Other Walks

For our walk today we return to Deeside to visit Glen Ey one of the popular glens in this area.

Route 1 Carn Bhac The walk commences at the car park in the small hamlet of Inverey. Head westwards past the telephone kiosk and over the Ey Burn bridge, then turn left and follow the wide path south then east up the valley of the Allt Christie Beag burn, climbing to just below Carn Leith (818m). Our route then heads south on a faint path over two unnamed tops at 788m and 801m to reach the summit of Geal Gharn (878m).From here, head east over another unnamed top at 920m to finally reach the main summit of Carn Bhac (946m). From the top, continue eastwards to Carn Creagach (894m) and then northwards to pick up a track at around 731m, which is followed down hill to Carn nan Seileach and eventually reaches the ruins of Auchelie in Glen Ey.Head north on the main track, passing the Colonel’s Bed to arrive at the start point in the car park at Inverey where the bus will be parked.

Route 2 Carn Liath From the car park, follow route 1 (above) uphill along the valley of the Allt Christie Beag burn to reach the bealach at NGR036864 then head north on the good track to reach the summit of Carn Liath (818m).
From the top continue along the ridge to reach Carn na Moine (755m) before descending on zigzags near Creag Chait and continuing through the forest to eventually reach the main road near Muir Cottage. Return the short distance to the car park at Inverey where the bus will be parked.

Route 3 Glen Ey For those wishing a low level walk, head due south from the car park along the main track up Glen Ey Pass by the Colonel’s Bed and continue to follow the Ey Burn for as far as you want. The main track finishes at the ruins of Altanour Lodge some 5.5 miles (9Kms) up the glen. Return to the car park by the outward route.

NOTE: Some may wish to visit the Colonel’s Bed, but be very careful as it is a steep descent on a faint narrow track which may be slippery if wet. The rock “bed” itself is not now visible Due to rock falls in this narrow gorge.
