Today, we are back on Donside to walk the lesser known hills in this valley. Hamish Clunas suggested this walk and your Committee included it in the 2016 Programme. This walk is a through one, so members who require a shorter, or different, walk – for safety reasons, please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus, so early discussions can take place with the driver.

The walk commences on the A97 (Mossat /Strathdon) road at the turn off to Glen Buchat. Walk along this unclassified road for about half a mile and go right to Blackhillock farm. Continue over Little Firbriggs Hill and NW’wards to Meikle Firbriggs Hill (557m) and on to Creag an Eunan (633m). Leave the track and head NE’wards to Dun Mount (602m) and Mount Meddin (595m). From this latter summit, retrace your steps (S’wards) a short distance towards Glenlaff Hill (589m) to pick up a wide path at approx. NGR 405 201. Head SE’wards over Peat Hill (567m) and left at a split in the route to a valley between Broom Hill (499m) and Chapel Hill (466m).

At another path junction, go left round the north shoulder of The Deelat (478m). Go right (SSW’wards) at the next junction and then left (SE’wards) at approx. (NGR 449 167) and onwards to Kildrummy Castle, where our bus will be conveniently parked..
