Bus departs Aberdeen at 9.00am.
This walk is through one, so anyone wanting a shorter, or different walk should advise the member in charge of the outing today , prior to leaving the bus.
- From the bus at the car park (NGR 832 399) head S’wards on a forestry track through Badiebath Woods towards Gight Castle. Go through a gate at the castle and after about 200m go right upwards on steps to arrive at Gight Woods. Follow the path W’wards and eventually go downhill and soon arrive at Otter Bridge (NGR 819 389). Cross the bridge and turn right and then immediately left at (NGR 820 389) and in about 100m go onto a good forestry track. Pass the Braes of Gight and Wood of Wardford before heading towards Methlick . From Methlick head SE’wards to gain a gate at (NGR 871 360). Go through this gate and head towards Haddo House on a tarred road. Pass Haddo House at (NGR 867 348) and carry straight on, and at (NGR 864 343), veer left until (NGR 865 341). Continue on the path and at NGR 864 337 walk straight ahead and go through a gate at Formartine Lake(or Keithfield Lake) (NGR 855335), keeping the loch on your left and passing near Mains of Keithfield. You will then end the walk at the keepers cottage (NGR 851 334)and nearby Formartine Visitor Centre where our bus will be parked . (NGR 850 333). Walking distance 9 miles.
- From the bus, head S’wards until (NGR 832 396). Turn left through the woods until (NGR 841 394). Turn right and cross the Waterloo Bridge over the River Ythan and join Route 1 at NGR 840 392 into Methlick. Follow Route 1 as above. Walking distance 6 miles.
- From the Methlick car park (NGR 857 373), follow Route 1 as described above. Walking distance 4 miles.
Bus departs for our Festive Meal at 3pm.
