O.S.Map 37 (Strathdon).

The walk today takes to a point between Deeside and Donside on the Old Military road at Braenaloin (NGR280 000). This can be a circular or a through walk – the choice is yours! If it is a through walk, it will terminate at the Crathie Carpark otherwise follow the route sheet. Please indicate your intentions with the person in charge today – before leaving the bus.

Take the path beside Braenaloin (SE’wards) and follow it all the way to the summit of Geallaig Hill (749m). From the summit cairn a path drops down SW’wards to a point approx (NGR 277 975), where we head NW’wards then northerly to join the old military road. Turn sharp left and walk along this road for about 900m to a point – approx.(NGR 261 982). On the other side of this road a track goes NW’wards towards the Coulachan Burn then Northwards towards the track going Westwards to Corndavon Lodge passing Blairglass on the way. At a point approx. (NGR 248 007), turn hard right and walk eastwards along Glen Gairn for about 5.5km back to our bus parked at Braenaloin. Distance approx. 11miles

For those walkers requiring a slightly shorter walk. At the turn of point (NGR 277 975). Continue SW’wards (NO PATH) to eventually reach Lawsie and continue down the B976 to the car park at Crathie. Distance approx. 8 miles.

Bus departs Braenaloin at 3.30pm.

In the event of an emergency arising, the person in charge of the outing should be contacted, if possible, before the police are contacted. Relevant telephone number for Grampian Police is 0845 600 5700 or 999.

Committee member in charge today is David Fenlon
