Our walk today traverses part of the hills and moors of the Cromdale Area, which lie between the valleys of the rivers Avon and Spey. Your Club last visited this area on 22nd June 2008. Unfortunately, we encountered a very rainy and misty day and our outing was not one to be commented on. Lets hope today’s outing gives us something to remember. Our intended walk is a through route, however, if any member(s) should require a shorter walk, please advise your Committee member in charge so that early discussions can take place with the driver.
The walk commences on a secondary road, (an alternative spur route of the main “Speyside Way”) off the A95 Grantown on Spey to Charlestown of Aberlour, at Easter Shennoch farm (NGR 111 301). Take the path from the farm heading SE up a long ridge, past Cnoc na Seilg, which climbs to the plateau at NGR 129 277. From the plateau, head SW’wards, keeping to the high ground, passing an unnamed top (597m) and onwards over a cairn to arrive at a trig point on Creagan a’Chaise (722m). Our route continues SW’wards, then S’wards over Carn Tuairneir (693m) and soon swings E’wards over Carn na Cloiche (662m) & Sgor Gaoithe (628m) before descending eastwards to our bus pick-up point near Lynebreck (NGR 061 219) on the A939 Old Military Road.
