The Cromdale Hills contain Royal Cairns and the Cairngorm reindeer herd
1. A path starts directly from the lay-by at the road and continues upwards until you meet a cairn and the summit of Sgor Gaoithe.
2. From there continue East until a junction at NGR 087 217. Don’t go downhill but instead turn left (North) and then go NE to Carn na Cloiche.
3. Leave the track at NGR 098 223 and go North staying on the high ground to reach Carn Tuairneir.
4. Go NE past some grouse shooting butts and then on to Creagam a’ Chaise summit and Jubilee Cairn. The Jubilee Cairn built for Queen Victoria’s golden Jubilee should have a visitor book for you to sign.
5. Go North and then NE staying on the high ground to a Cairn at NGR 107 260.
6. Descend down past a line of grouse shooting butts until you reach a decent path at NGR 113 280 that zig zags past more grouse butts.
7. Stay on this good path and head SSW at NGR 104 279 where the path splits. This goes past the site of the Battle of Cromdale which took place 1st May 1690.
8. Follow this path round Claggersnich Woods keeping the woods on your right.
9. At the end of the woods keep straight on and go through the farm of Easter Lethendry.
10. At the junction NGR 084 277, time permitting, you can head left to visit the single story remains of Lethendry Castle. Once complete, come back the way you came on to the end of the road at NGR 084 278.
11. Turn left at this junction and follow the road back into Cromdale.
Turn right at the main road in Cromdale and 100m on your left will be a car park at a recreation ground with the bus.

2. Turn right immediately after the railway bridge following the signpost for the Viewpoint walk and cross a small wooden footbridge.
3. A path/steps on your right will take you up on to the old railway line that is part of the Dava Way – watch out for ghost trains.
4. Take the gated path on the left a short distance along. Cross a bridge and then follow the path between the fences.
5. The path goes up hill to two viewpoints (the first on the left is just off the path over a stile so head off, have a look and then come back on to the main path. The second is to the right 20 metres further up.)
