Walk Notes

Today, our walk takes us into an area of Perthshire where your Club has not been for a number of years. Hamish Clunas included this walk in his “suggestion sheet” for the 2013 Programme and, this outing was included by your Committee. Once again, this is a through-walk, so if any member(s) require(s) a shorter walk, they would have to stay on the bus, travel to the pick-up point and do some walking in the Kirkmichael area. Please discuss this with your Committee member in charge of the bus today, so that early discussions can take place with the driver.

We commence off the A923 Dunkeld to Blairgowrie road, at a carpark on an unclassified road (NGR 023 436). From this point, head N’Wards towards Cally Loch and at NGR 024 442, veer right on a good track towards Hatton and Birkenburn. Take the NE’wards route towards “The Glack” and at NGR 031 461, take the path N’wards along the east side of the unnamed loch, through the forest, (DO NOT GO TO MILL DAM) passing Raor Lodge to the west, before your route soon swings NE’wards towards Loch Ordie Lodge. Take the wide track up the west side of Loch Ordie and head N’wards on a good wide track, ignoring paths to both sides, passing under overhead electrical lines, to eventually reach Lochan Oisinneach Mor. Continue N’wards along the west side of this loch and at NGR 029 552, veer east, for about 150m and then NE’wards towards the west side of Lochan Oisinneach. At NGR 038 560, head N’wards between Meall Reamhar (534m) and Creag Gharbh (496m) and then veer NE’wards and N’wards, passing Loch Eisg on your right and soon crossing The Back Burn to reach a wide track (NGR 043 593) to the east of Mains of Glenderby. Turn right here (E’wards) and, follow this wide track for about 4km, passing the houses of  Middle Balnald, and joining an unclassified road at NGR 077 597, near an old cemetery then crossing a bridge over the River Ardle into Kirkmichael. Our bus will be parked at a convenient place in Kirkmichael village (NGR 080 601).
