Walk Notes

Today your club walk takes you on a circular route round the the Dunecht Estate most recently in the news as where Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein filming has taken place and then up Barmekin Hill which has the remains of a neolithic hill fort at the top.

Main walk – Barmekin Hill

1. From the start point head South through the main gates into the estate. Turn right at the fork in the road to go between the two gatehouses.
2. Stay on this road and you will eventually head on to the golf course and turn right on the track which will have the loch on your right hand side.
3. When you get to a T junction turn left, heading out past the South Lodge, turn right then follow this track to the end of the road.
4. You will reach the main road of the B977 at NJ737062. Turn right on to the B977 and then left after 50m on to a track with an red Osprey sign that goes past Upper Mains.
5. Continue on and then at NJ727065 take the right hand fork and right again on to a path. Go through a gate.
6. On this path keep an eye out for the track that will head up Barmekin Hill at NJ727067. Continue up this path to the fort and trig point at the top.
7. After stopping to take in the views, head North down on a narrow path on down until you get to NJ725080 and turn right (East).
8. Stay on this track that will go past Barmekin Cottage and then Old Wester Echt on your left before coming to the B977 again.
9. Cross directly over the B977, following the track until just after a cattle grid and then at NJ745077 follow the track as it veers left and then take the left again at the crossroads where you head (North)
10. At the T junction head right (East) and you will come back along side the dairy farm/nursery walls. At the crossroads head left (North) along the road you came in on.
11. Stay on this road going back through the gatehouses, turn left to get to the main estate entrance.

Bus departs Dunecht at 2:00 pm.
