Bus departs at 8.00am

Today’s main walk takes us to the Braes of Abernethy to cross the hills and moors towards Tomintoul. This walk is a through one, so members who require a shorter walk, please indicate you intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.

  1. We commence our main walk at the end of a secondary metalled road near Dorback Lodge (NGR 077 168). A landrover track leaves the starting point and goes NE’wards before swinging SE’wards through the valley of the Allt Mor to the west of Tom na Fianaig (504m). The path eventually crosses Allt Dearcaige and arrives at a bothy (NGR 124 127) below Carn Ruadh-bhreac (618m). Our route now contours NE’wards below this hill along the Water of Ailnack to the Ca-du Ford. If the river is in spate and not safe to cross, take the path on the west side of the Water of Ailnack and head NE’wards towards Delnabo and onwards to Tomintoul (NGR 168 187). Otherwise, cross the stream at the ford and head E’wards for the ruined building in the valley (NGR 144 136). A path heads for Wester Gaulrig and soon crosses the River Avon at a bridge to arrive at Auchnahyle (NGR 164 142). Follow the riverside track N’wards past Birchfield and the bridge at Delavorar (NGR 169 158) to soon join a metalled road to Tomintoul. Walking distance approx. 13 miles.
  2. A shorter walk commences at Tomintoul. Walk SW’wards towards Delnabo and take the metalled road SE’wards towards Delavorar (NGR 169 158). Cross the bridge here over the River Avon and head back N’wards to Tomintoul. Walking distance approx. 5 miles.
  3. Another short walk, commences at Tomintoul and heads NW’wards to the cycle trail (NGR 164 194). Head NE’wards, turn E’wards over the Conglass Water. At NGR 170 201 go SE’wards past the Old Kennels to meet a metalled road (NGR 176 195) coming from Tomnavoulin. Head S’wards towards Milton, turn right back to the bus at Tomintoul. (NGR 168 187). Walking distance approx. 4 miles .

Bus Departs at 5.30 pm.
