Walk Notes

The walk today follows part of the ridge of the Cromdale Hills which runs between the valleys of the rivers Avon and Spey.

The walk commences in Strath Avon on the B9136 road at the bridge over the River Avon between Ballcorach and Ballenlish farms (NGR 155.265) where a farm road crosses towards Mains of Inverourie and a track then climbs up on to the ridge of the Cromdale Hills following the course of a burn.

When the ridge is reached turn south west to follow it over two 600 metre unnamed tops and then continue for 1 ½ miles to reach the summit of Creagan A’ Chaise (722m, 2368 ft). From there we turn southwards over Carn Tuairneir (693m,2273ft), then westwards again over Carn Na Cloiche (662m,2171ft) and on over Sgor Gaoithe (628m,2059ft), where we descend to the A939 old military road near the farm of Lynebreck (NGR 061.219), where our bus will be parked.
