Walk Notes
The club last did this walk in April 2013, it mostly follows the old railway which ran from Elgin to Aviemore serving several distilleries on the route.
Walk 1:- Starting at Cragganmore NJ167365 take the path to the right crossing the Ballindalloch rail bridge over the River Spey. After 2miles passing the old Blacksboat station, now a private house. Continue on the path with the river on your right, after another 2 miles pass Tamdhu distillery then Knockando cutting the corner at a river meander. 2 miles farther on cross the footbridge at Carron. Shortly after the route crosses the road then passes to the right of the Dailuaine Bio plant, another 2.5 miles on you find yourself arriving in Aberlour.
The Speyside Way is along the side of the Spey with the river on your left, continue northward passing the yard for Carntyne Transport along a tree lined track close to the road. Where the River is close you will pass through a tunnel (sunspecs should be removed), by this stage Craigellachie is close, with the road on the right you arrive at a small carpark on the left near the old Telford designed bridge, NJ 286451 where the bus will be parked. Walk Distance 12 miles / 19.3 km
Walk 2:- Should you wish to do a short walk the driver will drop you at the gates of Dailuaine Distillery (on the road signposted Carron/Dailuaine). NJ 237410, walk downhill taking the road on the right towards the Bio plant, THE ROADS ARE NARROW, KEEP TO THE RIGHT. Before reaching the Bio Plant take the track round the side of the gate, from here the details are same as the main walk. Walk Distance 4.5 miles / 7.3km
