Walk Notes

O.S. Map 44 (Ballater).

Bus leaves Aberdeen at 8.00 am.

  1. The main walk commences at (NGR 340 951). We go through a gate and walk through the forest for about a mile, passing Loch Ullachie, before ascending a good path on the west side of the trees passing Creag Liath (458m) and Carn a’ Bhealaidh (456m) all the way to the summit of Coyles of Muick. Retrace your steps and descend (no path ) to pick up a good path in Alltcailleach Forest at (NGR 330 918). Walk S’wards to about NGR 337 907 and head NE ‘wards, ignoring paths on your right at NGR 339 909 and NGR 342 912 to gain a metalled road at NGR 345 917. Head N’wards for about 2.25 m1les passing the turn offs to Mill of Sterin and Birkhahall to gain the South Deeside Road near Ardmenach.(NGR 354 948). Head E’wards to Bridge of Muick then NW’wards to our bus at Ballater (NGR 369 957).

Walking distance approx. 10 miles.

  1. An alternative walk starts at the bus in Ballater (NGR 340 951). Walk along the main A93 road out of Ballater to NGR 365 960. Walk along this road for a few hundred yards, enter the woods and climb to the summit of Craigendarroch on a well defined path and return. Follow the road and enter the path towards the river and pick up a path which heads S’wards along the golf course and then E’wards through the caravan park towards the bridge over the River Dee. Return to the bus. Walking distance approx. 5miles.
  2. Another alternative walk begins at the bus carpark in Ballater. Walk NW’wards along the A93 towards the old railway station. Head NE’wards on the “Cycle Route” past Millton of Tullich and onwards to Turnerhall. Retrace your steps to our bus in Ballater.

Walking distance approx. 5.5 miles

Bus leaves for Aberdeen at 3.00 pm.
