Walk Notes

Our walk today takes us to the Angus Glens, to climb two of the lower hills between Glen Prosen and Glen Isla. This walk is a circular one, so members can have a shorter walk – so please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.

The walk commences in Glen Prosen at the farm of Easter Lednathie (NGR 399 631). From this farm walk westwards along the unclassified road to reach Wester Lednathie farm. Continue W’wards towards Glen Uig farm and enter Glen Uig proper. This steep sided glen is followed along the north side of the burn passing the northern flanks of Tarapetmile (517m). The glen then swings S’wards to reach a path (NGR 287 623) which climbs NE’wards up the shoulder of Clinking Cauldron and continues E’wards to reach Cormaud (507m). From here, head SE’wards towards Monthrey and continue up the shoulder to gain the summit trig of Catlaw (671m). From the summit, head E’wards to Long Goat (571m). Retrace your steps towards the flattish ground around NGR 330 614 and head N’wards towards Peat Shank, where a track is picked up which descends this shoulder, passing the eastern edge of a plantation of trees. This track eventually emerges at a bridge on the unclassified road about 500m south of your starting point at Easter Lednathie farm where the bus will be parked at a convenient spot.
