Walk Notes

Today’s walk takes us on the first section of the famous Speyside Way (when travelling the route from North to South). Although it is itimated in our AHWC Programme to commence at Buckie village, our start point is actually at the western end of the town at Buckpool Harbour NGR 410 652. The walk follows the coast itself in a southwesterly direction to reach the disused railway line at Portgordon. Continue on this rail track-bed in a westerly direction, crossing the Burn of Tynet to arrive at a bridge above Lower Auchenreath. Cross the bridge. The walk then follows northwestwards across “The Links” to eventually arrive at Spey Bay, the Speyside Way Visitor Centre and the old Tugnet Salmon fishing station which is now a museum. At this point on the mouth of the river, you are directed by signposts southwards along the scenic route alongside the River Spey for approximately 5 miles. You will eventually arrive at the main A98 (Aberdeen to Inverness) road. The route veers southwards and heads into the town of Fochabers where our bus will be parked near the memorial and picnic area (approx NGR 341 591).
