Walk Notes

Today we head South to the Angus Glens to traverse the Hill of Wirren, a large featureless mass of hill,678m high, lying between Glen Esk and Glen Lethnot in Angus.
The walk commences in Glen Lethnot near the hamlet of Bridgend at Drumcairn (NGR 539682). Take the path heading North westwards on the west side of the burn of Drumcairn towards Dikehead farm. After about 250m northwest of the farm, the path splits at NGR 532693.Where we take the right hand track along the east side of Craig of Finnoch (351m) towards the Shank of Ledmanie. Continue ascending the shoulder of the hill, northwards, to reach the trig point on the summit of the Hill of Wirren (678m).The lesser top of West Wirren (628m) lies about a mile to the northwest. Our route however turns southeast for a short distance across some peat bogs to reach the summit of East Wirren (639m) with the trig point slightly further east wards of the top. Descend southwards from the trig point to pick up a path around NGR539728 which leads down the shoulder and towards the Hill of Corathro (405m). Continue the descent, on a wide track, to reach Little Tullo farm where the farm access road leads to a secondary road near Dalbog farm about half a mile to the north. After a short distance ,near a left hand bend, a path heads due south, by the boundary of fields, and passing a water reserve building to finally reach
Lochside. Enter the woods and follow the track to the north end of Edzell where the bus will be parked near the toilets in the square.(NGR 600690).
Walk distance is approximately 12 Miles (19Kms)
